Have you ever felt that others have cast you aside? Have you ever been dismayed at what has been said to you or about you? Are there not times when you hurt so much you want nothing more than for God to take you by the hand and lead you through your troubles?
Consider then the words of God spoken through His prophet Isaiah.“- I have chosen you and have not cast you away. Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - “For I the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ ”(Isaiah 41:9-10,13 NKJ). What an incredible statement. What wonderful encouragement and comfort can be gained from these words. Knowing that when others, in their own self-righteousness, cast you away, God will reach out His hand to uphold you in His righteousness.
Who are we that God should do this for us? How do we know these words are spoken for us today? Who are they are addressed to? “But you Israel - whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.” (Isaiah 41:8). Who are the seed of Abraham? “Therefore know that only those who are of faith, are sons of Abraham.” - “And if you are Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:7, 29). The words spoken by God through the prophet Isaiah are meant for us, those who are Christ’s, those who have God’s Holy Spirit. A closer examination of the Book of Isaiah shows that these words were spoken in the context of an end time setting. They are definitely meant for spiritual Israel today.
When we find ourselves isolated, separated from other brethren, perhaps even shunned by some, how incredibly comforting it is to know that God Himself offers His hand to help and strengthen us. What an example to follow. Isn’t that what loving our neighbor is all about? Reaching out to uphold, strengthen and help each other.
