A Shadow of Good Things to Come
Observe the shadow cast on the pavement when the sun is shining from behind you. It produces a vague outline of your shape. It is not a perfect representation. God’s law is a shadow, “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.” (Hebrews 10:1). It is not the exact image and cannot make anyone perfect. It is a shadow of perfect nature of God. When we receive God’s Spirit, which is the very essence of His mind and nature, we can become like God. The law was only a shadow of what we can become. It is not the law that makes us perfect. It is the Spirit of God that enables us to fulfill the law and grow to perfection.
